Placements24 is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer for special projects in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The role blends in-office collaboration with remote work, driving research, design, and development of new mechanical systems for next-gen agricultural machinery.

You will work with an R&D team, applying advanced engineering and CAD/simulation tools to deliver robust prototypes and testing plans, while coordinating timelines and resources across cross-functional groups.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• At least 5 years in mechanical design and development with R&D focus.
• Strong CAD and simulation experience.
• Experience with rapid prototyping techniques and testing methodologies.
• Ability to work well in a hybrid office/remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of prototypes and equipment for agricultural applications.
• Perform feasibility studies, concept generation, and detailed design using CAD software.
• Conduct advanced engineering analysis including FEA and CFD to optimize performance.
• Develop and execute testing plans for new mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with R&D, software, and field operations teams.
• Create comprehensive documentation including drawings, BOMs, and reports.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues during development and testing.
• Manage project timelines and resources for special projects.
• Contribute to IP generation through innovative designs.
