Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Rustenburg to own design projects and push innovation in mechanical systems. You will collaborate with manufacturing and R&D to bring concepts to life and improve existing designs in an on-site capacity.

The role requires a strong background in 3D CAD, FEA, and manufacturing processes, along with leadership and mentorship responsibilities for junior staff.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Expertise in 3D modeling and drafting tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Proficiency in performing FEA analysis and understanding of material properties.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, and injection molding.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills for effective collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical components and assemblies utilizing CAD software.
• Perform detailed engineering calculations, including stress, thermal, and dynamic analysis.
• Create comprehensive manufacturing drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
• Oversee prototyping, testing, and validation of new designs to ensure functionality and reliability.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Work closely with the manufacturing department to ensure designs are optimized for production.
