Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead end-to-end design of robust industrial equipment at our Kimberley, Northern Cape facility. You will develop 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and perform stress, vibration, and fatigue analyses to ensure reliability.

You will collaborate with electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to integrate systems, prototype and validate new designs, and optimize for production and maintenance while conforming to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of professional experience in mechanical design for industrial machinery or heavy equipment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor) and experience with FEA tools.
• Strong understanding of machine dynamics, mechanisms, and power transmission systems.
• Experience with manufacturing processes (machining, welding, fabrication).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for collaboration in an office environment.
• Proven ability to manage design projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively.
• Familiarity with industrial safety standards and best practices.
• Must be willing and able to work on-site in Kimberley, Northern Cape, ZA.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and complete machines for industrial applications using CAD software.
• Create detailed 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Perform mechanical analyses, including stress, vibration, and fatigue analysis, to ensure structural integrity and longevity.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, controls specialists, and manufacturing personnel to ensure seamless system integration and production.
• Oversee the prototyping, testing, and validation of new machinery designs.
• Work closely with manufacturing to optimize designs for ease of production, assembly, and maintenance.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues in existing equipment and develop effective solutions.
• Research and evaluate new technologies, materials, and components to enhance machinery performance.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
• Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, specifications, and user manuals.
