Job summary

Weylandts Furniture Creations is seeking a Senior Machinist to join the WFCF team in Cape Town. The role involves operating a range of woodworking machinery to produce precise components and finished products from timber and sheet materials.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with router tables, band saws, panel saws and related machinery, with a strong eye for detail and safety. You will read drawings, set up equipment and mentor junior staff in a busy workshop.

Qualifications

• Significant experience as a timber/wood machinist.
• Strong knowledge of woodworking machinery and machining processes.
• Ability to work accurately from drawings and specifications.
• Good understanding of timber, sheet materials and grain direction.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good understanding of workshop health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a range of woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
• Accurately machine timber, hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, plywood and other sheet materials.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists and specifications.
• Carry out machine set-ups, adjustments and basic maintenance.
• Inspect finished components to ensure quality standards.
• Minimise material waste through accurate cutting and efficient machine use.
• Assist with training and mentoring junior machinists and workshop staff where required.
• Work closely with production team to meet deadlines and targets.

Job Purpose:

Weylandts Furniture Creations is looking for an experienced and skilledSenior Machinistto join our WFCF team. The successful candidate will have strong experience working with timber and sheet materials and be confident operating a range of woodworking machinery to produce high-quality, accurate components and finished products.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate a range of woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
• Accurately machine timber, hardwoods, softwoods, MDF, plywood and other sheet materials.
• Operaterouter tablesusing a variety of cutters and tooling.
• Operate and set upband sawsfor accurate cutting and shaping.
• Operatepanel sawsfor precise sizing of sheet materials.
• Set up and operatemortising and tenoning machineryto produce accurate joints.
• Select the correct cutters, blades and tooling for different materials and applications.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, cutting lists and specifications.
• Accurately measure, mark out and machine components to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Carry out machine set-ups, adjustments and basic maintenance.
• Inspect finished components to ensure they meet required quality standards.
• Identify and rectify machining defects or inaccuracies.
• Minimise material waste through accurate cutting and efficient machine use.
• Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
• Follow all workshop health and safety procedures, including correct use of PPE and machine guarding.
• Assist with training and mentoring junior machinists and workshop staff where required.
• Work closely with other members of the production team to meet deadlines and production targets.
