Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Lighting Artist to join their passionate team in Kimberley . You will be responsible for crafting visually compelling and atmospheric lighting across game environments and cinematics, playing a critical role in defining the mood, tone, and overall aesthetic of our projects. This position requires a strong artistic eye, a deep understanding of light behavior, and technical proficiency within game engines. You will collaborate closely with environment artists, art directors, and technical artists to bring virtual worlds to life with stunning and believable lighting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and iterate on lighting for game environments, ensuring artistic direction and technical constraints are met.
• Create and optimize lighting scenarios that enhance mood, narrative, and gameplay clarity.
• Work with environment artists and technical artists to ensure scene assets are set up correctly for optimal lighting.
• Develop and maintain lighting style guides and best practices for the team.
• Troubleshoot and resolve lighting-related performance issues.
• Collaborate with the art team to achieve a cohesive and high-quality visual presentation across the project.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Lighting Artist in the game industry, with a portfolio showcasing exceptional lighting work.
• Proficiency in lighting tools within major game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
• Strong understanding of color theory, composition, and the physics of light.
• Experience with Maya or other 3D software for scene setup and asset manipulation.
• Knowledge of PBR rendering principles and their impact on lighting.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
