Job summary

The University of KwaZulu-Natal invites applications for the Senior Lecturer: Fine Art in the School of Arts, Pietermaritzburg Campus. The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate teaching of art theory and studio practice, and will supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students on campus.

The role requires a PhD in Fine Art or related field, at least three years of teaching or research experience, a proven research or creative output, and a demonstrated ability to secure research

Qualifications

• PhD degree in Fine Art or a relevant discipline.
• Three (3) years' teaching, lecturing, research or industry experience in Fine Art or related field.
• Evidence of current and sustained research and/or creative output through peer‑reviewed, exhibited or accredited channels.
• Track record of supervising postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD level.
• Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as Principal Investigator or as a team member.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to undergraduate teaching of art theory and studio practice.
• Supervise Honours, Masters and PhD students.
• Deliver in-person teaching at UKZN Pietermaritzburg Campus.
• Integrate theory and relevant art history content with studio-based projects.
• Engage in qualitative and artistic research methodologies, including Practice-Led Research.
