Job summary

ATS Client in Cape Town seeks a senior Java developer to lead technical directions, mentor juniors and shape robust solutions. You will design, code, test and document using Java/J2EE, Hibernate and Quarkus, while ensuring RESTful APIs and microservices integrate with existing frameworks.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with DevOps collaboration, strong unit testing, and comprehensive documentation across the SDLC, in a hybrid Cape Town environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in the South African IT sector with service delivery, managed services and feasibility experience.
• 5–7 years of Java/J2EE expertise including Hibernate, JUnit and Quarkus.
• Proven web projects using RESTful APIs and microservices; frontend basics and DBs.
• Experience with IntelliJ, Maven, Tomcat; Jira and Confluence for lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Act as a senior technical authority, guiding and mentoring junior developers.
• Develop training programs and contribute to internal technical libraries.
• Design, code, test, and document robust Java solutions aligned with best practices.
• Partner with DevOps to meet customer needs and support internal systems.
• Maintain high code standards with thorough unit testing and documentation.
