Senior Interior Designer – Vectorworks & Technical Design
South Africa | Fully Remote | Permanent or Freelance |
Placed by Hotsourced connecting exceptional talent with ambitious businesses across the globe.
About the Role
We are working with an established UK-based multidisciplinary design studio specializing in high-end interiors, hospitality, residential and commercial environments.
They are looking for a Senior Interior Designer with strong professional Vectorworks expertise who can combine technical precision with a strong creative eye.
This is a hands‑on role for someone who is equally comfortable developing design ideas, shaping spaces and producing detailed technical drawing packages. You will work across projects from concept and spatial planning through to RIBA Stage 4 technical delivery, helping translate creative vision into beautifully resolved, buildable interiors.
The role would suit an experienced designer who understands that great technical design is not simply about producing accurate drawings it is about maintaining the design intent, character and quality of a project all the way through delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed 2D Vectorworks drawings across interior design projects.
- Develop plans, elevations, sections, joinery details and construction drawing packages to a high standard.
- Work across projects from concept and spatial planning through to RIBA Stage 4 or equivalent technical delivery.
- Translate creative concepts into technically resolved and buildable interior spaces.
- Contribute to spatial planning, layouts, furniture placement, lighting, materials, finishes and overall design development.
- Develop mood boards, material palettes, FF&E concepts and presentation material where required.
- Collaborate with designers, architects, suppliers and other project stakeholders to develop and refine projects.
- Maintain a strong sense of proportion, detail, balance and visual hierarchy throughout the technical process.
- Take ownership of allocated projects and deliver work accurately and independently while working as part of an international team.
- Ensure drawings and documentation are clear, coordinated and suitable for construction and project delivery.
- Bring creative thinking and design judgement to technical work rather than approaching projects purely from a CAD-production perspective.
- 5+ years' professional experience in interior design, architecture or a closely related discipline.
- Strong, hands‑on Vectorworks 2D experience within a professional design environment.
- Proven experience delivering RIBA Stage 4 or equivalent technical drawing packages.
- Strong technical capability across plans, elevations, sections, joinery and construction details.
- Experience working on high‑end hospitality, residential and/or commercial interiors.
- Strong understanding of spatial planning, proportion, furniture, lighting, materials and finishes.
- A strong creative eye and the ability to bring design judgement and ideas into technical work.
- Experience with FF&E, mood boards, material and finish selections and/or interior styling.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a remote international team.
- Strong written and verbal English.
- A high-quality portfolio demonstrating both creative interior design work and strong Vectorworks/technical output.
- Strong luxury hospitality experience.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Knowledge of SketchUp, Enscape, Twinmotion or Rhino.
- Experience with detailed FF&E specification.
- Experience creating or art-directing visuals and renderings.
- Understanding of UK interior design and construction standards.
Your portfolio will be an important part of the selection process.
Please submit an edited portfolio, focusing on your strongest and most relevant work rather than including every project you have worked on.
Your portfolio should:
- Include your strongest Vectorworks work, particularly projects where you were personally responsible for producing the technical drawings.
- Demonstrate your creative ability, spatial thinking and design judgement.
- Include projects where you had meaningful involvement from the initial design or ideas through to technical delivery, where possible.
- Clearly indicate which elements you completed independently and which were collaborative.
- Clearly state your involvement in the design process, technical drawings, visualisations and/or creative direction.
- Identify whether visuals or renderings were created by you or by another team member.
- If your strongest Vectorworks experience is from an earlier role, include more recent residential or commercial work that demonstrates your current creative ability, even if it was produced using another CAD programme.
Show Us Your Creative Eye
Beyond your professional portfolio, we’d love to see your personal design style and influences. Include either a Pinterest inspiration board or a mood board showcasing a space that reflects your taste and creative perspective.
