The role requires a strong background in instrumentation, control theory, and SIS, with a track record in large-scale projects and collaboration with operations and maintenance teams.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with specialization in Instrumentation and Control.
• 7+ years in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably Oil & Gas.
• Proven experience with DCS and PLC platforms.
• Strong knowledge of process control, SIS, and loop tuning.

About the Role

Our client, a significant player in Oil & Gas industry, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Instrumentation & Control Engineer for their facilities in Upington, Northern Cape, ZA. This role is critical for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of instrumentation and control systems across various Oil & Gas processing units and facilities. You will ensure the reliable and safe operation of critical equipment through effective automation and control strategies. The position demands a strong technical background in industrial instrumentation, control theory, and distributed control systems (DCS) or programmable logic controllers (PLC). This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to vital projects in the Northern Cape region, working within a professional and dynamic team dedicated to operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and implement instrumentation and control systems for Oil & Gas facilities.
• Develop P&IDs, control philosophy documents, and instrument datasheets.
• Configure and troubleshoot Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
• Perform root cause analysis for instrumentation and control system failures and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations related to instrumentation and control.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to optimize process control strategies.
• Manage projects related to instrumentation and control system upgrades and modifications.
• Develop and deliver training on instrumentation and control systems to technical staff.
• Oversee the calibration and maintenance programs for critical instrumentation.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in industrial automation and control.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in Instrumentation and Control.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in instrumentation and control engineering, preferably within the Oil & Gas sector.
• Proven experience with DCS (e.g., Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV) and PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Rockwell).
• Strong knowledge of process control principles, loop tuning, and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
• Familiarity with hazardous area classifications and associated instrumentation requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
• Experience working in the Upington, Northern Cape, ZA region or similar industrial settings is advantageous.
• Ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration or equivalent is a plus.
