Placements24 seeks a Senior Industrial Automation Engineer for an on-site role in Rustenburg, North West. You will design, implement, and maintain PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems to optimize plant operations within a mining environment.

The role requires 8+ years of hands-on automation experience, strong PLC/SCADA skills, and familiarity with Siemens TIA Portal and Rockwell Studio 5000. Travel to other sites may be required; a valid driver's license is needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• 8+ years hands-on experience in industrial automation engineering focusing on PLC/SCADA/HMI systems.
• Proficiency in major PLC platforms (Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Studio 5000) and SCADA (Wonderware, Ignition).
• Experience with industrial networking protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, Modbus).
• Strong understanding of process control principles and instrumentation.
• Mining or heavy industrial sector experience is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, program, and troubleshoot PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems for industrial automation applications.
• Oversee integration of automation components and ensure interoperability.
• Develop and implement robust control strategies to optimize plant operations.
• Analyze existing systems to identify improvements and upgrade needs.
• Lead commissioning and start-up activities for new automation systems.
• Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and maintenance teams.
• Develop and maintain system documentation including control logic and P&IDs.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards in mining environments.
• Collaborate with operations, mechanical, and electrical teams to meet project goals.
• Respond to faults and emergencies with rapid resolutions.
