Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Process Engineer to head hydrometallurgical operations in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape. This senior role focuses on process innovation, optimization of leaching, solvent extraction, and electrowinning, and driving safe, efficient metal recovery.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with operations and R&D, run pilot tests, model processes, and manage capital projects with a strong emphasis on safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
• 9+ years in hydrometallurgical design, scale-up, and operations.
• 3+ years in lead or senior role.
• Experience with metals, battery materials, or base metals.
• Proficient in process simulation software METSIM, Aspen Plus, HSC Chemistry.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimization of hydrometallurgical processes.
• Provide troubleshooting to plant operations to maximize recovery.
• Model processes and conduct techno-economic evaluations.
• Oversee pilot testing and scale-up studies.
• Develop control strategies to improve efficiency and safety.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental standards.
• Mentor process engineering team and manage capital projects.
