Job summary

Placements24 in Vereeniging, Gauteng, seeks a skilled Heavy Machinery Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet of heavy equipment used in construction, mining and industrial projects. You will diagnose mechanical, hydraulic and electrical issues to minimize downtime and keep machinery performing at peak levels.

The ideal candidate has a trade qualification, 5+ years of hands-on experience with CAT, Komatsu, Volvo and Liebherr, and a valid driver’s license (Code 14 advantageous).

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as a Heavy Machinery Mechanic or equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience maintaining heavy machinery.
• Experience with CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, Liebherr brands.
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, and electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose and repair complex faults.
• Proficiency with diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Valid driver’s license; Code 14 is advantageous.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends in Vereeniging.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of heavy machinery.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems.
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble faulty equipment components.
• Conduct preventative maintenance based on manufacturer recommendations and service schedules.
• Read service manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation for all equipment worked on.
• Ensure repairs and maintenance are carried out safely and efficiently.
• Operate diagnostic equipment and perform necessary adjustments and calibrations.
• Respond to emergency repair calls for machinery breakdowns in the Vereeniging region.
