Placements24 is seeking a Senior Grid Modernization Engineer for an on-site role in Soweto, Gauteng. You will lead modernization initiatives, deploy smart grid technologies, and drive reliability and efficiency improvements across the power distribution network.

The role requires 7+ years in power systems, strong project leadership, and experience with AMI/SCADA and substation automation, ensuring safety, compliance and high-quality results.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or Control Systems.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in power systems engineering with grid modernization focus.
• Experience implementing AMI, SCADA, distribution automation and substation automation.
• Strong understanding of grid operations, protection and power quality.
• Data analytics and modeling for grid performance assessment.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, specializing in Power Systems or Control Systems.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering, with a significant focus on grid modernization and smart grid technologies.
• Proven experience in implementing AMI, SCADA, distribution automation, and substation automation systems.
• Strong understanding of power grid operations, protection systems, and power quality issues.
• Experience with data analytics and modeling for grid performance assessment.
• Excellent project management, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in relevant software tools for grid analysis and simulation.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
• Familiarity with the specific challenges and opportunities within the South African electricity sector is highly desirable.
• Willingness to work on-site in Soweto, Gauteng , and travel as needed.
