Placements24 is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to lead the design, construction and management of tailings storage facilities in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. You will apply soil/rock mechanics and hydrogeology concepts to ensure stability, safety and environmental compliance of mine waste structures.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience and proficiency in SLOPE/W/SEEP/W/GEOSTUDIO/FLAC.

Qualificações

• Masters or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 8 years in geotechnical engineering with tailings experience.
• Proven design and analysis experience for TSFs.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software and labs.
• Knowledge of GISTM and SA mining regulations.

Responsabilidades

• Perform geotechnical investigations and lab testing for TSFs and waste dumps.
• Design TSFs with embankment raises, liners and drainage per standards.
• Conduct stability analyses for TSFs including seepage and liquefaction.
• Develop and implement TSF monitoring programs and instrumentation.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and construction specs.
• Oversee QA/QC for TSF-related works.
• Provide guidance on mine waste management and closure planning.
• Liaise with regulators and multidisciplinary teams.
• Stay updated on best practices in tailings management.
