Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a distinguished Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead the geotechnical services division in Pretoria. The role focuses on delivering ground engineering solutions for infrastructure and development projects across Gauteng and beyond.

You will manage complex investigations, design foundations, earthworks, slope stability measures, and provide expert advice on ground improvement, seismic analysis, and earthquake engineering where applicable. Mentoring senior staff is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a geotechnical specialization.
• Pr.Eng with ECSA registration is mandatory.
• 9+ years of extensive geotechnical experience with project leadership.
• Expertise in soil and rock mechanics, foundation engineering and numerical modeling.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS and GeoStudio.
• Strong report writing, presentation and project management skills.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a distinguished Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead their geotechnical services division in Pretoria . This role is critical for providing expert ground engineering solutions for a wide range of infrastructure and development projects across Gauteng and beyond. You will be responsible for managing complex geotechnical investigations, designing foundations, earthworks, and slope stability measures, and ensuring the safety and stability of structures based on subsurface conditions. We are looking for a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of soil mechanics and rock mechanics, capable of delivering innovative and cost-effective geotechnical designs while mentoring a team of geotechnical specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, laboratory testing, and data analysis.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining structures, slope stabilization measures, and earthworks for various infrastructure projects.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, design recommendations, and specifications for clients and construction teams.
• Provide expert advice on ground improvement techniques, seismic analysis, and earthquake engineering where applicable.
• Manage geotechnical aspects of projects, including budgets, timelines, and risk assessment.
• Review and approve designs and work performed by junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Professional registration (Pr.Eng) with ECSA is mandatory.
• At least 9 years of extensive experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant project leadership responsibilities.
• Expertise in soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and numerical modeling (e.g., finite element analysis).
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar analysis tools.
• Strong report writing, presentation, and project management skills.
