About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geneticist to contribute to their pioneering research efforts in Port Elizabeth . This role is central to investigating the genetic basis of diseases and developing innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. You will lead research projects, analyze complex genetic data, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of human genetics, experience with modern genomic technologies, and a passion for translating genetic discoveries into impactful healthcare solutions within a dedicated research facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee research studies to identify genetic factors contributing to disease susceptibility and progression.
- Perform and interpret various genetic analyses, including sequencing, genotyping, and linkage analysis.
- Develop and implement new molecular genetic techniques and protocols.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to recruit participants, collect samples, and integrate genetic findings into patient care strategies.
- Analyze and manage large-scale genomic datasets, employing bioinformatics tools and statistical methods.
- Author scientific manuscripts, present findings at conferences, and contribute to grant applications.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Human Biology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience in human genetics or a related research area.
- Demonstrated expertise in human genetics , population genetics, or clinical genetics.
- Proficiency with next-generation sequencing (NGS) technologies and associated data analysis pipelines.
- Experience with statistical genetics and bioinformatics software packages.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for working within a team in Port Elizabeth .
