Senior Garment Technologist – Fit & Quality Assurance

Job summary

LEGiT in Durban seeks an experienced Garment Technologist to join the Quality Assurance team. You will develop, grade, modify, and maintain garment standards that reflect design intent, fit requirements, and brand standards, ensuring production-ready products.

You will collaborate with Buyers, suppliers and QA to support development and manufacturing of apparel, review technical packs, conduct fit sessions, and drive improvements in quality, timing, and consistency across all ranges.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Garment Technologist in apparel manufacturing.
• Experience in Ladieswear/Intimate wear advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of garment manufacturing, fabric performance, and quality standards.
• Experience with fit evaluations, technical packs, and supplier communication.
• Understanding of critical path management and apparel product development.
• Proficient in Excel and PLM systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and manage technical packs, garment specifications, measurement charts, and construction standards.
• Review design briefs and product specifications for feasibility and brand alignment.
• Evaluate prototype, fit, pre-production and bulk samples against specs and quality standards.
• Conduct fit sessions and provide clear fit comments and corrective actions to suppliers.
• Assess construction, measurements, workmanship, fabric performance, trims, and packaging for standards compliance.
• Collaborate with Buyers, Designers, QA teams, and Suppliers across development and production.
• Monitor sample submissions and supplier performance to ensure on-time delivery.
• Identify fit, quality, and manufacturing issues and propose corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with quality requirements, regulatory standards, testing protocols, and safety requirements.
• Review and approve measurement specs, grading, and size consistency.
• Check measurements, construction, seams, trims, finishes, fabric, colour, labelling, packaging against specs.
• Maintain records of fit comments, specs, sample approvals, quality concerns, and revisions.
• Analyse recurring supplier issues and drive continuous improvement.
• Provide technical guidance to suppliers and stakeholders to improve quality.
• Stay informed of industry best practices and garment construction techniques.
