Job summary

AES Global is seeking a Senior Front-End Engineer with deep React expertise to lead UI design and delivery for scalable interfaces. You will architect front-end systems, drive decisions on performance, accessibility and developer experience, and mentor engineers from concept to production.

You’ll champion best practices, build a design system, and collaborate on API design while guiding a team through complex features in a consumer digital environment. Based in SA with hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• 6–8 years of front-end experience with several years in React.
• Strong JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript with deep React knowledge.
• Proven front-end architecture capability.
• Solid CSS and responsive design; experience with Next.js or Vite.
• Strong testing experience (Jest, React Testing Library, end-to-end) and API integration.
• Solid accessibility (WCAG AA) and internationalisation understanding.

Responsibilities

• Lead front-end architecture decisions and champion best practice across patterns, tooling and code quality.
• Design and deliver complex, scalable features, breaking large problems into maintainable, testable components.
• Architect client/server state management and collaborate on API design.
• Set testing standards and strengthen CI/CD, code review and observability.
• Lead performance optimisation across rendering, bundle size and Core Web Vitals, and uphold WCAG AA accessibility.
• Build and evolve a shared design system (Storybook), and mentor intermediate and junior engineers.

You’ll architect front-end systems, drive technical decisions and set the standard for performance, accessibility and developer experience — leading complex features from concept to production and mentoring the engineers around you.

What you’ll do

• Lead front-end architecture decisions and champion best practice across patterns, tooling and code quality

• Architect client/server state management (React Query, Zustand or similar) and collaborate on API design
• Set testing standards (unit, integration, end-to-end) and strengthen CI/CD, code review and observability
• Lead performance optimisation across rendering, bundle size and Core Web Vitals, and uphold WCAG AA accessibility
• Build and evolve a shared design system (Storybook), and mentor intermediate and junior engineers

What you’ll bring

Working model

In office with flexitime, based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
