Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking a Formulation Scientist to join its R&D team. You will design, develop, and optimize pharmaceutical dosage forms, improving bioavailability and patient compliance through hands-on lab work.

You will collaborate with analytical chemists, process engineers, and regulatory affairs specialists to advance products from concept to early clinical trials. The role emphasizes data analysis, method development, and rigorous documentation.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Proven expertise in dosage form development (solid, liquids, semi-solids, injectables).
• Experience with formulation characterization techniques and analytical method development.
• Strong understanding of GMP principles and regulatory requirements for drug product development.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and scientific curiosity.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop novel drug formulations for various routes of administration.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to characterize drug substances and excipients.
• Prepare and evaluate prototype formulations, including stability testing.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for formulation characterization.
• Troubleshoot formulation challenges and propose scientific solutions.
• Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory filings.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in pharmaceutical formulation.
