Placements24 seeks a Senior Fiber Optic Network Designer for Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The role focuses on end-to-end fiber network design, from planning to construction oversight, ensuring high-speed broadband deployment across the region.

You will work in a hybrid setup with cross-functional teams, applying in-depth knowledge of optical networks, design software, and industry standards to deliver reliable connectivity solutions.

Formación

• Minimum 5–7 years in fiber optic network design

• Familiarity with FTTx (GPON, EPON)

Responsabilidades

• Forecast network capacity to support growth
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and regulations

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding telecommunications provider, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Fiber Optic Network Designer to join their technical team. This role, based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, ZA, offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for flexibility while maintaining essential collaboration within the team.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end design of our client's fiber optic network infrastructure, from initial planning and feasibility studies to detailed design documentation and construction oversight. Your expertise will be critical in ensuring the efficient and reliable deployment of high-speed broadband services across the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Design detailed fiber optic network layouts, including fiber routes, splice points, termination points, and equipment placement.
• Conduct feasibility studies and site surveys to identify optimal network paths and potential challenges.
• Utilize specialized design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS tools) to create accurate network maps and documentation.
• Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and construction teams to ensure designs are implementable and cost-effective.
• Specify fiber optic cable types, connectors, and passive optical components.
• Perform network capacity planning and forecasting to accommodate future growth.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
• Review and approve designs created by junior engineers or external partners.
• Provide technical guidance and support throughout the network deployment lifecycle.
• Identify opportunities for network optimization and cost reduction.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in fiber optic network design, with a focus on outside plant (OSP) and/or inside plant (ISP) infrastructure.
• Proficiency in fiber optic network design principles, including FTTx technologies (GPON, EPON).
• Strong experience with network design software and tools (e.g., AutoCAD, ESRI ArcGIS, OSP-Route).
• Solid understanding of optical network components, testing methods, and performance metrics.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards (e.g., ITU-T, IEEE).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
• Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience with project management principles is a plus.
