Job summary

The CSIR in Pretoria is seeking an Engineer to lead the Equipment and Machinery team. You will ensure all CSIR equipment is maintained in line with legal requirements, authorised plans, and budgets, and implement cost-effective preventative maintenance to maximise reliability and safety.

You will also manage budgets, coordinate with sub-contractors, and drive continuous improvement in engineering policies and standards to optimise lifecycle costs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or B-Tech in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years’ equipment experience.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Government Certificate of Competency desirable.
• Knowledge of OHSACT, machinery regulations and related standards.
• SAQA evaluation for international qualifications if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and manage maintenance of CSIR equipment for up to 5-year timeline.
• Ensure equipment compliance with statutory requirements (OHSACT, etc.).
• Manage the MOC system for equipment.
• Prepare budgets and bids; drive contract negotiations.
• Oversee subcontractors to ensure compliance with standards.
• Document operating and maintenance philosophy; create work plans and schedules.
• Create job specs, risk assessments and delivery standards.
• Conduct root cause analysis of failures and incidents.
• Final sign-off on procurement of equipment and machinery.
• Develop and implement engineering policies and standards.
