The ideal candidate has a BSc or BEng in Environmental/Civil Engineering with at least seven years in consulting, excellent communication, and the ability to work independently from a home office with reliable internet.

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking environmental consultancy, is seeking a dedicated Senior Environmental Engineer to join their expanding, fully remote team. This role focuses on providing expert environmental assessment, compliance, and management services to a diverse range of clients across South Africa. You will lead environmental impact assessments (EIAs), develop environmental management plans (EMPs), and ensure regulatory compliance for various projects, contributing to sustainable development initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of environmental legislation, assessment methodologies, and project management skills, with a passion for environmental stewardship. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the execution of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Basic Assessments (BAs).
• Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) and monitoring programs.
• Ensure compliance with national, provincial, and local environmental legislation and regulations.
• Conduct environmental audits, site assessments, and risk evaluations for various industries.
• Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, including impact assessments, feasibility studies, and closure plans.
• Provide expert advice and guidance on environmental best practices and mitigation measures.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and client communication for environmental consulting projects.
• Collaborate effectively with clients, regulatory authorities, and other project stakeholders virtually.
• Mentor and support junior environmental scientists and engineers on projects.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related science degree.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a strong focus on impact assessments and regulatory compliance.
• Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex environmental projects.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA, etc.) and EIA processes.
• Proficiency in environmental modeling and data analysis software is an advantage.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
• Strong organizational and project management skills to effectively manage remote workflows.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet project deadlines without direct supervision.
