Job summary

I&J, part of AVI, is seeking an Employment Relations Specialist to provide expert IR guidance across the business. The role includes advising management, supporting union engagement, and managing disciplinary and grievance processes to ensure fairness and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 5-7 years in employee relations within a fishing, maritime, FMCG, manufacturing or food processing setting, with CCMA/Bargaining Council experience and a relevant degree.

Qualifications

• Three-year degree in Industrial Relations, Labour Relations, Law or related field.
• Postgraduate Labour Law or dispute resolution qualification.
• CCMA, bargaining council or chairing disciplinary enquiry training.
• Experience in a unionised environment and CCMA proceedings.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational employment relations support to line management, HR teams and employees.
• Assist with union engagement, consultations and negotiation preparation.
• Draft, interpret and implement recognition agreements and collective agreements.
• Advise management on disciplinary, grievance, incapacity and dismissal processes.
• Represent the business at CCMA or bargaining councils when required.
• Maintain industrial relations records and monthly reporting inputs.
