Job summary

CDM Smith in South Africa is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to lead feasibility and preliminary design for a major water-conveyance study. You will coordinate pumping, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, control, SCADA, and power‑supply elements for the project.

The role requires a master’s degree in electro-mechanical engineering, 15+ years of relevant experience, and professional engineering registration. Travel up to 40% is expected.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in electro-mechanical engineering or related field.
• Professional engineering registration with a recognized body.
• Minimum 15 years' post-qualification experience in electro-mechanical design.

Responsibilities

• Plan and develop preliminary designs for electro-mechanical systems in major hydraulic projects.
• Coordinate pump, electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and SCADA aspects with other streams.
• Prepare equipment data sheets, schedules and cost inputs for design iterations.
• Contribute to HAZOP, asset management, O&M planning and climate-risk assessment.
• Evaluate power supply, grid connections, and transformer requirements; support risk analysis.
