Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an Electrical Test and Commissioning Engineer to join our client in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. You will develop and execute test procedures for switchgear, transformers, motors and generators and verify that installations meet design specifications and safety requirements.

Collaborating with project engineers and site teams, you will document results, prepare commissioning reports and handover documents, and provide on-site training while ensuring on-time project

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in testing and commissioning of electrical power systems and equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical testing methods, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications.
• Experience with protection relay testing and configuration is highly advantageous.
• Knowledge of various electrical systems found in industrial, commercial, and utility environments.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and report findings clearly.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed within the Western Cape region.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive test plans and procedures for various electrical equipment and systems (e.g., switchgear, transformers, motors, generators, protection relays).
• Execute pre-commissioning checks, functional tests, and performance testing on-site.
• Commission electrical installations, ensuring correct integration and operation within the overall system.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical faults and malfunctions during the testing and commissioning phases.
• Interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals to guide testing procedures.
• Ensure all testing activities comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and project specifications.
• Document all test results, observations, and corrective actions taken.
• Collaborate with project engineers, site supervisors, and clients to ensure timely and successful project completion.
• Provide technical support and training to site personnel as required.
• Prepare commissioning reports and handover documentation.
