About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their operations in Klerksdorp . This role is pivotal in designing and overseeing the implementation of electrical systems and infrastructure for complex mining projects. You will be responsible for ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of electrical power distribution, control systems, and heavy machinery in a demanding mining environment. This is an on-site position that requires direct engagement with project teams, site personnel, and operational management to deliver state-of-the-art electrical solutions. Your expertise will be critical to the success and safety of our mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of power distribution networks, substations, and control systems for mining operations, adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, and Bill of Quantities (BoQ).
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical systems and equipment on-site.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow analysis, fault calculations, and protection coordination.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and site personnel.
• Collaborate with project managers, geologists, and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with overall project requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience in designing electrical systems for underground and surface mining operations.
• In-depth knowledge of mining electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., Mine Health and Safety Act), and relevant equipment.
• Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP).
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is highly advantageous.
