Placements24 is seeking a Senior Design Engineer - Mechanical to join our Paarl-based product development team. You will translate concepts into robust, manufacturable designs using advanced CAD tools and perform thorough analysis to ensure reliability.

The ideal candidate will lead design from concept to prototyping, collaborate with manufacturing to enable mass production, and contribute to DFM/DFA reviews with strong GD&T and FEA experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in mechanical product design.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling with GD&T.
• Experience with stress analysis (FEA) and engineering simulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design process from concept ideation through prototyping.
• Develop and optimize 3D CAD models and drawings in SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Perform tolerance analysis, FEA, and simulations to validate design performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are cost-effective for mass production.
• Contribute to DFM/DFA reviews and implementation.
• Document design specs, test results, and proposals.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer - Mechanical to join their innovative product development team based in Paarl . This role is pivotal in designing and refining mechanical components and systems for new product introductions. You will be responsible for translating concepts into robust, manufacturable designs, utilizing advanced CAD tools and performing thorough analysis. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver with a passion for design excellence and a deep understanding of mechanical principles and materials.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design process for new products, from concept ideation through to detailed design and prototyping.
• Develop and optimize 3D CAD models and detailed manufacturing drawings using software such as SolidWorks or Inventor.
• Perform tolerance analysis , FEA, and other simulations to validate design performance and reliability.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are cost-effective and suitable for mass production.
• Contribute to product DFM/DFA (Design for Manufacturing/Assembly) reviews and implementation.
• Document design specifications, test results, and technical proposals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in mechanical product design.
• Expertise in 3D CAD modeling and drafting, with a strong understanding of GD&T.
• Experience with stress analysis (FEA) and other engineering simulation tools.
• Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining, stamping).
• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail in design work.
