Job summary
DVT, a leading software development consultancy in Africa, is seeking a Johannesburg-based Senior Data Engineer to design and deliver modern, scalable data platforms using Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, onsite in Sandton.
You will lead migrations from SQL Server to Fabric/Databricks, build ETL/ELT pipelines with PySpark, and implement Delta Lake governance, lakehouse architectures, and semantic models to power Power BI reporting.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in Data Engineering.
- 3+ years hands-on Databricks delivery.
- Proven track record in data migration and modernisation.
- Consulting or client-facing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable Microsoft Fabric and Databricks data platforms.
- Lead SQL modernisation and migration from SQL Server to Fabric/Databricks.
- Build ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark, Python, and SQL.
- Implement Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Purview governance.
- Design lakehouse and medallion architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold).
- Build semantic models and support Power BI reporting.
- Apply Kimball dimensional modelling best practices.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices.
