Job summary

DVT is a leading software development consultancy in South Africa, seeking a Johannesburg-based Senior Data Engineer with deep Microsoft Fabric and Databricks expertise. The role is onsite in Sandton, supporting enterprise clients with modern data platforms.

Responsibilities include building scalable data platforms, leading migrations to Fabric/Databricks, and mentoring junior engineers while delivering end-to-end data solutions and governance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in Data Engineering
• 3+ years hands-on Databricks delivery
• Proven track record in data migration and modernisation
• Consulting or client-facing experience
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable Microsoft Fabric and Databricks data platforms
• Lead SQL modernisation and migration from SQL Server to Fabric/Databricks
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark, Python, and SQL
• Implement Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, and Purview governance
• Design lakehouse and medallion architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold)
• Build semantic models and support Power BI reporting
• Apply Kimball dimensional modelling best practices
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical best practices
