Qualifications

• Post-graduate degree in Business, Finance, Economics or related field.
• 12-18+ years of experience in corporate/investment banking.
• Proven track record in managing senior client relationships and delivering revenue growth in the Public Sector arena.
• Demonstrated experience in leading complex, multi-product transactions.
• Experience within sector-led or matrix coverage models.
• Significant experience covering Public Sector with PFMA/MFMA, Municipal finance, public procurement, Sovereign risk, SOE governance and Infrastructure funding.

Job Summary

Act as the strategic relationship lead for state-owned enterprises, municipalities, provincial governments, public utilities and sovereign-related institutions by delivering infrastructure, funding and treasury solutions aligned to public sector objectives. Strong understanding of public sector governance, municipal finance and state-owned enterprise funding structures.

The Senior Coverage Banker is a senior client-facing role responsible for leading and deepening strategic relationships with key corporate and institutional clients. The role drives revenue growth through origination, structuring, and execution of complex financial solutions across lending, advisory, and capital markets. Operating within a sector-led model, the Senior Coverage Banker works closely with Coverage Bankers, Sub-Sector Heads, Country Sector Heads, and Global Sector Heads to execute sector strategies, manage priority client portfolios, and ensure alignment between client needs and the bank's capabilities. The role combines strategic relationship ownership, deal leadership, sector insight, and internal leadership within a matrixed organisation.

The role acts as a recognised sector specialist, providing strategic insight into industry trends, client business models, value chains, regulatory developments and sector-specific financing solutions. Typical transactions will include Municipal financing, Infrastructure financing, utility funding, capital raising and treasury solutions.

This role is suited to a candidate with:
