Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer for our client in Cape Town to lead the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced industrial control systems.

You will work on PLC programming, SCADA/HMI, and integration of motion control and networks to deliver robust, safe, and scalable automation solutions for manufacturing environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• 7+ years hands-on experience in control systems engineering for industrial automation.
• Proficiency in PLC platforms (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi).
• Experience with SCADA/HMI software (Wonderware, Ignition, FactoryTalk View).
• Strong ability to read electrical schematics and P&ID diagrams.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Cape Town, Western Cape.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, program, and commission PLC-based control systems for industrial automation applications.
• Develop and configure SCADA and HMI interfaces for process monitoring and control.
• Implement and troubleshoot various industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
• Perform system integration, testing, and validation to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
• Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers to define system requirements.
• Conduct root cause analysis and provide timely solutions for system malfunctions and performance issues.
• Develop and maintain documentation, including control philosophy, logic diagrams, and user manuals.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in control system technology and automation trends.
• Provide technical support and training to operations and maintenance teams.
• Ensure all designs and implementations comply with industry standards and safety regulations.
