Placements24 is seeking a Senior Construction Planner for an on-site role in Mahikeng, North West. You will develop and manage detailed construction schedules for major infrastructure projects, coordinating with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure timely delivery and budget adherence.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s in CM or Engineering and 8+ years’ experience in planning, with strong expertise in Primavera P6 and MS Project, sequencing, and risk mitigation.

About the Role

Our client, a leader in delivering complex infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Planner to join their dynamic team in Mahikeng, North West . This role is crucial for developing, implementing, and managing detailed construction plans and schedules for major projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, and site teams to ensure that projects are delivered on time and within budget, optimizing resource allocation and identifying potential risks. The ideal candidate possesses a strong analytical mind, exceptional organizational skills, and a deep understanding of construction methodologies and sequencing. This is an on-site position requiring active participation in project coordination and execution.

Key Responsibilities

Develop comprehensive master schedules and detailed construction plans using project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project). Analyze project scope, specifications, and drawings to determine the most efficient construction sequencing and timelines. Collaborate with project teams to define project milestones, critical path activities, and resource requirements. Monitor project progress against the plan, identifying deviations, delays, and potential risks. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate schedule risks and recover lost time. Prepare regular progress reports, schedule updates, and 'look-ahead' plans for management and stakeholders. Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of resources and adherence to the schedule. Conduct site visits to assess progress, validate reported progress, and ensure alignment with the construction plan. Participate in project meetings to discuss schedule performance, risks, and proposed solutions. Contribute to the tendering process by developing preliminary construction schedules and execution strategies.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction planning and scheduling, with a significant focus on large-scale projects. Proficiency in scheduling software such as Primavera P6 and/or MS Project is mandatory. Strong understanding of construction processes, sequencing, and interdependencies. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to interpret complex construction drawings and project documentation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly. Experience working collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and site personnel. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of the construction industry in South Africa is advantageous.
