Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to lead and manage the on-site execution of wind farm and or solar PV projects. Based on project sites across South Africa, the role will ensure that construction activities are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction projects with a strong preference for renewable energy construction and a proven track record managing large-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure wind and or solar PV project is constructed to specification and design irrespective whether self-performed or subcontracted, ensuring compliance with project scope, programme, budget, and quality standards.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise subcontractors, suppliers, and construction teams to achieve project milestones.
• Monitor construction progress and report on cost, schedule, resource utilization, and safety performance.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations and promote a safety-first culture on site.
• Develop and implement work methods, construction procedures, and site logistics plans.
• Manage site interfaces and project managers to ensure seamless interface between engineering and commissioning teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Lead site meetings, progress reporting, identify, track, and resolve site issues, risks, or delays; implement corrective actions where required.
• Ensure quality control by ensuring testing, inspections, and commissioning activities undertaken to specification.
• Support project close-out activities, including snagging, handover documentation, and lessons learned.
• Mentor and guide site-based junior managers, engineers, and supervisors.

Required Experience & Qualification

• Tertiary qualification in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Construction Management.
• Minimum 10 years of construction management experience, with at least 5 years in renewable energy projects (wind farms or solar PV).
• Proven track record managing large complex projects in South Africa or the region.
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, contracts, project controls, and site safety management.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, contracts and technical documents.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience managing staff, subcontractors and multi-disciplinary teams on large-scale projects.

Preferred Attributes

• Experience with grid-connected renewable energy projects and EPC delivery models.
• Familiarity with project management software (Primavera P6, MS Project, Siteplan) and construction reporting tools.
• Familiarity with cost control management software (Candy) and construction reporting tools.
• Knowledge of South African HSE regulations and industry best practices.
• Ability to operate under tight schedules and dynamic project environments.
