Placements24 is seeking a Senior Concept Artist for a leading game development studio near Pretoria to shape the visual identity of new titles, from characters to environments.

You will collaborate with the Art Director and design teams, mentor juniors, and ensure concepts meet gameplay and technical constraints while pushing storytelling through art.

A strong portfolio, proficiency in Photoshop and Procreate, and at least 5 years of experience in game concept art are required.

About the Role

A leading independent game development studio based near Pretoria is searching for a highly skilled and imaginative Senior Concept Artist to join their dynamic team. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to the visual identity of exciting new game titles, working on everything from character designs and environments to props and mood pieces. You will play a crucial role in defining the artistic vision and aesthetic direction of our projects, collaborating closely with game designers, art directors, and other artists. Key Responsibilities

• Generate original and compelling concept art for characters, environments, props, and key visual elements for video games.
• Collaborate with the Art Director and Game Design team to define and maintain the artistic style and vision of projects.
• Create detailed illustrations, mood boards, and style guides to communicate artistic direction to the wider development team.
• Develop sketches, line art, and full-color paintings that effectively convey mood, atmosphere, and narrative.
• Incorporate feedback from the Art Director and team members to iterate and refine designs.
• Research and stay updated on industry trends, artistic techniques, and emerging technologies in game art.
• Mentor junior concept artists, providing guidance and feedback to foster their growth.
• Ensure all concept art aligns with technical requirements and gameplay considerations in Pretoria .

Requirements

• A strong portfolio demonstrating exceptional skill in digital painting, illustration, and concept art, specifically for video games.
• Proficiency in industry-standard art software such as Adobe Photoshop, Procreate, and similar tools.
• Deep understanding of anatomy, perspective, color theory, lighting, and composition.
• Experience working within a game development pipeline and understanding the constraints of real-time rendering.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate ideas clearly.
• A keen eye for detail and a passion for visual storytelling.
• Experience with 3D software (e.g., ZBrush, Blender, Maya) for asset creation or paintover is a plus.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Concept Artist in the games industry.
