Placements24 is seeking aSenior Concept Artist to join our studio in Midrand, Gauteng. You will define visual identity across characters, environments and props, guiding the production team with your compelling concepts.

We value exceptional drawing and painting skills, a deep understanding of color theory and composition, and the ability to collaborate with directors and stakeholders to push creative boundaries.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as a Concept Artist in entertainment (film, games, animation).
• Strong drawing, painting and digital art skills in Photoshop/Procreate.
• Solid understanding of composition, color, lighting, perspective, and anatomy.
• Proven ability to design characters, environments and props; experience in production pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Create high-quality concept art for characters, environments, props, and key moments.
• Develop visual styles and aesthetics from creative briefs.
• Collaborate with directors and artists to iterate on designs.
• Produce detailed designs for 3D modelers, environment artists and animators.
• Maintain high artistic quality and consistency across deliverables.
• Research references to inform designs and ensure accuracy.
• Present concepts to the production team.
• Stay updated on trends in concept art and visual development.
• Contribute ideas within the production pipeline.
• Mentor and guide junior concept artists.

About the Role

This role is essential in defining the visual identity and aesthetic of our projects, requiring an artist with exceptional creativity, strong drawing and painting skills, and a deep understanding of design principles across various domains such as characters, environments, and props. You will be responsible for generating compelling visual concepts that inspire and guide the entire production team, translating ideas into tangible visual forms. The ideal candidate possesses a diverse portfolio showcasing their ability to explore different styles and moods, and a keen eye for detail, composition, and color theory. Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of professional experience as a Concept Artist in the entertainment industry (film, games, animation), with a strong and diverse portfolio.
• Exceptional drawing, painting, and digital art skills using software such as Photoshop, Procreate, or similar.
• Strong understanding of composition, color theory, lighting, perspective, and anatomy.
• Proven ability to design compelling characters, believable environments, and interesting props.
• Experience working within a production pipeline and collaborating with other departments.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate creative ideas clearly.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with 3D software (e.g., ZBrush, Maya, Blender) for concept development is a plus.
• A strong passion for visual storytelling and a keen eye for aesthetic quality.
• Ability to adapt to different art styles and project requirements.
