About the Role

Our client, an innovative game development studio situated in the scenic coastal town of Mossel Bay, Western Cape, is seeking a highly imaginative and skilled Senior Concept Artist & Environment Designer. This role is crucial in establishing the visual foundation and aesthetic direction for their upcoming projects. You will be responsible for creating compelling concept art, detailed environment designs, and inspiring visual narratives that define the worlds and atmospheres of their games. Key Responsibilities

• Generate high-quality concept art, including character designs, props, and key visual moments.
• Design immersive and detailed game environments, establishing mood, architecture, and environmental storytelling.
• Develop style guides and visual targets for project art direction.
• Collaborate closely with game designers, art directors, and other team members to define and refine visual concepts.
• Create detailed breakdowns and asset lists for environment elements.
• Utilize various digital art tools and techniques to produce diverse artistic styles.
• Participate in art reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback.
• Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies in concept art and environment design.
• Mentor junior concept artists and contribute to the growth of the art team.

Requirements

• A minimum of 6 years of professional experience in concept art and environment design, preferably within the video game industry.
• Exceptional portfolio showcasing a strong understanding of composition, color theory, perspective, and anatomy.
• Proficiency in industry-standard digital painting software such as Photoshop, Procreate, or Corel Painter.
• Experience with 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender, ZBrush) for environment blockouts or asset creation is a significant advantage.
• Ability to adapt to various artistic styles and briefs.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• A keen eye for detail and a passion for world-building and visual storytelling.
• Degree in Fine Arts, Game Art, Illustration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Familiarity with game development pipelines and asset integration is a plus.
