Job summary

MSP Staffing (PTY) LTD is seeking an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership across underground mining and heavy industrial projects. You will lead design teams, deliver practical solutions from concept through execution, and mentor junior engineers.

The role requires a strong background in reinforced concrete, structural steel and mining infrastructure, with a track record of delivering in EPCM or consulting environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years' consulting, EPCM or contracting experience.
• Experience in underground mining infrastructure design.
• Proven ability to review outputs and guide other engineers.
• Proficiency with engineering software such as Robot, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support design and analysis of underground mining and surface infrastructure.
• Design structures including chambers, pump stations, underground water-retaining structures, heavy foundations, retaining systems, conveyors and transfer areas.
• Prepare and review calculations, specifications, reports, scopes of work, models and drawings.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, designers and draughting personnel.
• Review engineering deliverables for quality, constructability, consistency and compliance.
• Coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues.
• Ensure compliance with South African codes, standards and sound engineering practice.

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership across underground mining and heavy industrial projects. This is an opportunity for a technically strong engineer who can lead from the front, guide engineering teams and deliver practical, high-quality solutions from concept through execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and support the design and analysis of underground mining and related surface infrastructure.
• Design structures including chambers, pump stations, underground water-retaining structures, heavy foundations, retaining systems, conveyors and transfer areas.
• Prepare and review calculations, specifications, reports, scopes of work, models and drawings.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers, designers and draughting personnel.
• Review engineering deliverables for quality, constructability, consistency and compliance.
• Coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve technical issues.
• Ensure compliance with applicable South African codes, standards and sound engineering practice.
• Contribute to man-hour estimates, capital cost development, technical schedules and scope definition.
• Provide technical input into tenders and proposals, including methodologies and scope clarification.
• Conduct site visits, investigations and engineering assessments.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning and technical query resolution.
• Contribute to internal engineering standards, work practices and discipline capability.
• Support technical checking, mentoring and development of the wider Civil & Structural team.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (MEng will be advantageous).
• ECSA registration as Pr Eng preferred, or active registration process.
• 7+ years' consulting, EPCM or contracting experience.
• Strong experience in the design of underground mining infrastructure.
• Technical expertise in reinforced concrete, structural steel, heavy foundations, retaining systems and mining-related civil infrastructure.
• Proven experience delivering engineering work within mining or EPCM environments.
• Experience reviewing technical outputs and guiding other engineers.
• Proficiency in engineering software such as Robot, Revit, Civil 3D, Navisworks or equivalent.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and technical reporting abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and delivery pressures with professionalism and agility.
