Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a significant entity in the mining and processing industry, is seeking a highly skilled **Senior Chemical Process Engineer** for a critical project-based role in **Rustenburg, North West**. This position requires a dedicated professional who can contribute expertise in process design, optimization, and project execution. While the role is primarily based on-site, fostering close collaboration with plant personnel and project teams, there may be limited opportunities for remote work depending on project phase and needs. You will be responsible for managing various stages of process engineering projects, from conceptualization through to commissioning. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, exceptional project management skills, and a proven ability to deliver complex engineering solutions within demanding timelines and budgets. This role is crucial for driving innovation and efficiency in our client's operational processes and infrastructure development in the **Rustenburg** region. We seek an engineer who can take ownership and deliver tangible results on major capital and operational improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of chemical processes for new projects and existing plant modifications.
• Manage process engineering project scope, schedules, budgets, and resources from initiation to closure.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and mass/energy balances.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize efficiency, yield, and safety.
• Conduct feasibility studies, technical reviews, and risk assessments for proposed process changes.
• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, and civil engineers, as well as construction personnel.
• Ensure all designs and operations comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
• Procure and evaluate equipment proposals, ensuring technical specifications are met.
• Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and develop solutions to enhance plant performance.

Requirements

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering.
• At least 8 years of experience in chemical process engineering, with a significant portion focused on project management.
• Demonstrated experience in managing process engineering projects from concept to completion in an industrial setting.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of chemical plant operations, equipment, and safety protocols.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Experience in the mining or metallurgy sector is a strong advantage.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA is preferred.
• Willingness to work on-site in **Rustenburg** for the duration of the project.
