We are seeking a Senior Business Advisor with strong financial management expertise to join our newly created role within the Finance Division of Corporate Enabling Services (CES).

About the role

As part of the Business Advisory team, you'll partner with the Deputy Secretary's Office to provide high-quality advice on financial management, business planning, management accounting, and strategic costing.

You’ll deliver data-driven insights to support executive decisions and work with stakeholders including NSW Treasury to ensure transparent financial reporting. Your role includes developing business cases, return on investment assessments, compliance activities, and aligning financial and operational plans with department goals.

You’ll also lead analytics using current financial systems (MyWorkZone and MyOutcomes) in DCCEEW and utilize Power BI and Excel for data analysis, dashboards, and performance tracking to drive strategic reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert financial and business advice, including budgeting, forecasting, labour analysis, capital planning, risk management, and business case development with supporting costings, ensuring accurate accounting and consistent reporting across Corporate and Enabling Services.
  • Preparing monthly executive financial reports and data analysis, including dashboards for senior executives to support decision-making and address variances.
  • Advising on complex budgets and developing forecasts to align with operational strategies.
  • Analyzing performance, managing cash flow, and tracking key business metrics.
  • Producing detailed financial costing and analysis to support new business proposals.
  • Coordinating funding and preparing business cases for strategic initiatives.
  • About You

    To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • Financial Reporting Skills: Experience in developing and preparing monthly financial reports, utilizing dashboards with senior executives, managing complex budgets, forecasting expenditure, and delivering financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Advisory Expertise: Ability to provide timely expert financial and accounting advice and develop budgets and forecasts.
  • Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing financial performance, managing cash flow, monitoring business metrics, financial modeling, and data interpretation with high proficiency in Power BI and spreadsheets.
  • Coordination Abilities: Experience working with multiple stakeholders, budgets, and coordinating forecasts for various divisions.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong skills in building confidence and support among stakeholders, clients, and peers.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to research and resolve complex issues with innovative solutions.
  • Communication Skills: Experience in preparing briefing notes, senior executive reports, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with other stakeholders and teams to deliver finance-related initiatives.
  • Essential Requirements:

  • Senior experience in financial management and analysis
  • High-level Finance Business Partnering
  • Proven ability to work across complex, multi-division organizations
  • Strong technical skills with financial systems like MyWorkZone (SAP ERP) and MyOutcomes
  • Tertiary qualifications in finance or accounting and membership with a recognized accounting body (e.g., CA or CPA Australia)
