Job summary

Pro Talent in Durban is seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper to manage the full bookkeeping function in a high-volume environment. The role requires independent work, strong technical accounting knowledge, and meticulous attention to detail.

Experience in a business with large turnover and Pastel proficiency is essential. The ideal candidate will handle VAT reconciliations, payroll processing, and bring accounts through to Trial Balance, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting for management.

Qualifications

• 5+ years' relevant bookkeeping experience
• Strong Pastel experience – essential
• Experience taking accounts up to Trial Balance
• Strong VAT knowledge and experience
• Experience with VAT reconciliations and submissions
• Strong payroll processing experience
• Excellent Excel skills
• SARS and eFiling experience
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Full bookkeeping function from source documents through to Trial Balance
• Processing of all accounting transactions
• Bank reconciliations and cashbook processing
• Debtors and creditors
• General ledger maintenance
• Supplier and customer reconciliations
• Monthly accounting reconciliations
• Preparation of Trial Balance
• VAT calculations, reconciliations and submissions
• SARS eFiling
• Payroll processing and related reconciliations
• PAYE, UIF and other payroll-related submissions
• Processing and reconciliation of journals
• Fixed asset and depreciation schedules
• Monthly management account preparation/support
• Assist with year-end preparation and audit requirements
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
• Identify and resolve discrepancies and accounting variances
• Provide financial information and reports to management when required
