Job summary

Ubuntu RM is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to manage full bookkeeping to management accounts for a manufacturing operation in the JHB Southern Suburbs. You will handle bank reconciliations, stock costing, payroll, VAT submissions, and year-end preparations.

The role requires 5+ years of senior bookkeeping experience, strong systems knowledge (Sage, ACCPAC, Pastel), and accuracy under pressure. Based in Johannesburg West area, permanent on-site position.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of senior bookkeeping experience in manufacturing/ FMCG environments.
• High level of accuracy with strong reconciliation skills.
• Confident with VAT, PAYE, SARS e-filing and month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Full bookkeeping to management accounts.
• Balance bank accounts and petty cash; GL reconciliations; month-end/year-end journals.
• Stock control, cycle counts, and product costing; monthly payroll and tax submissions.
• VAT and statutory returns; cashflow management; budgets and loan accounts.
• Prepare for year-end audit and liaise with bank on FX.

Senior Bookkeeper

Location: JHB - Southern Suburbs

Reporting to: General Manager

Type: Permanent

Seniority Level: Mid Career (4 - 6 yrs exp)

Duties and Responsibilities

• Full bookkeeping function to management accounts
• Capturing and balancing of all bank accounts and petty cash
• Detailed GL reconciliations, month-end and year-end journals
• Stock control, weekly cycle counts, month-end stock takes and product costings
• Monthly payroll, PAYE calculations and submissions, UIF filing
• VAT preparation and submission, and all statutory returns
• Cashflow management, budgets and loan accounts
• Liaising with the bank on foreign exchange and releasing payments
• Preparation for the year-end audit

Desired Experience & Qualification

• 5+ years' senior bookkeeping experience, ideally in a manufacturing, production or FMCG environment
• Solid stock, costing and inventory experience (not just books to balance sheet)
• Strong systems experience — Sage / ACCPAC and/or Pastel essential; Pastel Payroll / VIP an advantage
• Confident with full VAT, PAYE and SARS e-filing
• High level of accuracy, strong reconciliation skills, and the ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision
• Matric essential; a relevant bookkeeping / accounting qualification advantageous
• Own transport and reliable; based within reasonable commuting distance of Johannesburg West preferred
