Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Biologist to join a pioneering cell therapy research team in Benoni, Gauteng. You will design and execute experiments focused on cell engineering, characterization, and functional assessment of therapeutic cells, contributing to next-generation therapies.

The role demands a Ph.D. with at least 4 years post-doctoral or industry experience, expertise in CRISPR gene editing, viral vectors, and flow cytometry, and strong collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years post-doctoral or industry experience in cell therapy research.
• Expertise in cell culture, CRISPR gene editing, and viral vector technology.
• Hands-on experience with functional cell-based assays, flow cytometry, and cell characterization techniques.
• Understanding of the challenges and requirements for developing cell-based therapeutics.
• Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent organizational skills, and effective communication within a multidisciplinary team in Benoni.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement experiments for the engineering and optimization of therapeutic cell products (e.g., CAR-T cells).
• Develop and perform assays to characterize cell product quality, potency, and safety, including phenotypic and functional analyses.
• Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy and mechanism of action of cell therapies.
• Collaborate with process development teams to ensure seamless translation of research findings to manufacturing.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, prepare reports, and present findings to internal project teams and management.
• Stay current with scientific literature and emerging technologies in cell therapy and regenerative medicine.
