Job summary

Tesla South Africa in Pietermaritzburg seeks a Renewable Energy Storage Systems Engineer to lead design, integration, and optimization of battery storage for utility-scale and commercial projects.

You will collaborate with product development, project management, and field operations to meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards, translating customer requirements into technical specs and overseeing implementations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or closely related field.
• Five+ years of hands-on experience designing and integrating large-scale battery storage.
• Experience with utility-scale renewable integration and grid services is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer battery storage systems from 1 to 100 MWh for utility-scale and commercial projects.
• Create detailed technical specs, schematics and wiring diagrams per local and international standards.
• Run system simulations to forecast performance under varied loads and environments.
• Collaborate with procurement to select components meeting cost, quality and sustainability criteria.
• Lead testing, commissioning and performance validation; support field engineers during installation.
• Prepare design reports, safety analyses and regulatory filings; stay updated on emerging storage tech.
