Placements24 is seeking a Senior Commodities Trader specializing in base metals to join a leading international trading firm in Upington, Northern Cape. You will develop and execute trading strategies across physical and derivative markets, leveraging market intelligence to optimize margins.

The role requires at least 8 years in base metals trading, deep market knowledge, and a track record of profitable P&L generation.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field; MBA/CFA preferred.
8+ years in commodities trading with base metals focus.
Proven P&L generation and risk management.
Strong understanding of global base metal markets.
Experience with trading platforms and derivatives.

Responsibilities

Develop and execute trading strategies for base metals in physical and derivatives markets.
Monitor global market trends, news, and economic factors affecting prices.
Analyze supply and demand fundamentals; identify opportunities and risks.
Build relationships with mining companies, smelters, end-users and participants.
Negotiate and execute trades with favorable terms and pricing.
Manage trading positions and hedge risks to protect assets.
Prepare market analysis, P&L statements and forecasts for management.
Collaborate with logistics, finance, and legal teams for execution.
Stay informed on international trade regulations and compliance.
Contribute to new trading strategies and market entry initiatives.
