Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a fully remote team serving clients globally from South Africa. You will design, develop, and maintain core backend services and APIs, tackling architectural challenges and driving scalability across distributed systems.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of backend experience, strong knowledge of Python/Go/Java/Node.js, and proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud platforms, and containerization.

About the Role

Our client is a globally recognized SaaS provider seeking an experienced Senior Backend Software Engineer to join their fully remote team. Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs. Write clean, efficient, well-tested, and maintainable code in languages such as Python, Java, Go, or Node.js. Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define and implement new features and system improvements. Architect and implement robust data storage solutions using relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) databases. Optimize application performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and ensure system reliability and scalability. Participate actively in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring adherence to best practices. Contribute to architectural design decisions and drive technical innovation within the engineering team. Troubleshoot and debug complex issues across the backend systems. Ensure the security and integrity of data and applications. Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge within the team.

Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 5 years of professional backend development experience. Expertise in at least one modern backend programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, Node.js). Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs and microservices. Strong understanding of database design and optimization for both SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Familiarity with message queuing systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ). Solid understanding of software engineering best practices, design patterns, and data structures. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote team environment.
