Placements24 is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join a cloud-focused engineering team in Sandton, Gauteng. Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering our cloud offerings, with emphasis on distributed microservices and robust infrastructure.

You will work with AWS/Azure/GCP, Docker/Kubernetes, RESTful APIs, and CI/CD pipelines to ensure performance and reliability, in a hybrid on-site/remote setup in Sandton.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of backend software development experience with cloud infrastructure.
• Proficiency in Go, Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Extensive experience with AWS/Azure/GCP and services like EC2, S3, Lambda, Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of microservices, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes; familiarity with CI/CD practices.
• Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
• Networking and security best practices in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their associated services (e.g., EC2, S3, Lambda, Kubernetes).
• Strong understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and distributed systems.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with database technologies (SQL and NoSQL) such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or Cassandra.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts and security best practices in cloud environments.
• Experience with CI/CD tools and practices.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
