Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Developer (Backend) to join a fully remote team across South Africa. You will architect, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering cutting-edge applications, mentor junior developers, and shape technical strategy.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of backend experience with Python, Node.js, Java, or Go, strong API and microservices knowledge, and cloud proficiency. Collaboration and autonomous work in a distributed setup are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Node.js, Java, or Go.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis.
• Experience with AWS/Azure/GCP and CI/CD practices.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes; strong problem-solving and communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement high-performance, scalable, and reliable backend services and APIs.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using primarily Python, Node.js, or Java.
• Architect and implement database solutions (SQL and NoSQL) ensuring data integrity and performance.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define feature requirements and technical specifications.
• Lead code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior developers.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks, bugs, and technical debt.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of microservices architectures and cloud-based solutions (AWS/Azure/GCP).
• Ensure the security and integrity of application data.
• Develop and maintain automated testing suites (unit, integration, E2E).
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices, driving innovation within the team.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Extensive experience with one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, Go).
• Proficiency in designing and working with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Strong understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Solid knowledge of software development best practices, including Agile methodologies, CI/CD, and TDD.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, effective in a remote setting.
• Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes is a plus.
