Codematch Co is seeking a Senior Backend & Platform Engineer to own a live, in-house platform in Johannesburg. The role combines API, database, and Azure responsibilities with a path to lead the new engineering team.

You’ll shape standards, pipelines and collaborate across the stack to deliver value for our retail-media platform. Based in Rosebank with hybrid work after onboarding, the position is permanent and offers market-related compensation.

Qualifikationen

• Solid commercial C# / .NET experience.
• SQL Server relational data modelling, including migrations.
• Azure in production: App Service or containers, CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience taking over or working on a system you’d build.
• Full-stack mindset and curiosity about product and users.

Own a live platform. Set the standard. Build the team's engineering foundations.

Our client runs a live, revenue-generating retail-media and connectivity platform used every day by consumers across South Africa\'s informal-trade market, with some of the country's best-known consumer brands buying media and insights on top of the data. Product development is moving in-house, and they are building a small engineering team from scratch. This is the first and most senior hire.

What you\'ll own

• The .NET 8 API, the databases, the Azure environments and the release pipeline


• Taking over the platform from the current development partner and becoming the person who understands how it runs end to end


• Setting coding and release standards, and mentoring a second engineer into the API


• Working across API, database and frontend when the work needs it

What you\'ll bring

• Solid commercial C# / .NET experience (the codebase is .NET 8: Minimal APIs, EF Core, Identity/JWT)


• SQL Server and relational data modelling, including migrations on a large existing schema


• Azure in production: App Service or containers, CI/CD pipelines, configuration and secrets


• Experience taking over or working on a system you\'d build


• A full-stack mindset, self-direction and genuine curiosity about the product and its users

Nice to have:

MassTransit / Azure Service Bus or other event-driven work, ClickHouse or another columnar database, captive portal / WISP / ISP exposure, daily use of AI coding tools. No networking or hardware certifications needed.
