Job summary

Jobgether, on behalf of a partner company in South Africa, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend-leaning full stack) to build and evolve critical payment infrastructure. You will focus on backend systems with ~80/20 backend-to-frontend duties, across billing, data pipelines, and reconciliation.

You will own projects end to end, from problem understanding to production delivery, with autonomy and strong engineering judgment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong backend with full-stack capability.
• Experience with Python, Next.js, React, PostgreSQL.
• Independently design, build, ship, and maintain production systems.
• Excellent English communication skills.
• Ability to overlap with US Pacific/Central time zones.

Responsibilities

• Own software projects end to end from objective through production.
• Design and maintain backend systems supporting payment recovery and billing.
• Develop integrations with payment providers and external services.
• Build data models, ingestion pipelines, reconciliation processes.
• Improve retry, orchestration, and payment recovery infrastructure.
• Contribute to ML experiments and data-driven initiatives.
• Develop email and push notification workflows and customer features.
• Collaborate across frontend when required using Next.js/React.
• Make architectural decisions independently when requirements evolve.
• Identify failure modes and scalability risks prior to production.
• Use AI-assisted tools to accelerate development with careful review.
• Participate in code reviews and sprint planning.
• Improve engineering processes as the product scales.
