Placements24 is seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) in Vereeniging, Gauteng, offering hybrid work with in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. You will design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems powering fintech products, mentor juniors, and contribute to architecture decisions.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in backend development, strong RESTful API and microservices experience, plus cloud and containerization expertise (Docker/Kubernetes).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Proficiency in at least one modern backend language (Python, Java, Go, Node.js).
• Strong experience with RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
• Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Understanding of agile methodologies, CI/CD, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software systems powering fintech platforms.
• Write clean, efficient code in Python, Java, Go, or Node.js.
• Build and maintain scalable APIs and microservices.
• Collaborate with frontend, product, and stakeholders to define requirements.
• Implement security measures and data protection protocols.
• Optimize performance for speed and scalability.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure quality and standards.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technology selection.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster continuous improvement.
